During your visit to La Fortuna, there are many activities to choose from. One of the most unique experiences you can have is to take a night walk with Acutus Travel.

As you stroll through the lush forests under the cover of darkness, you will have the opportunity to observe the impressive red-eyed tree frogs, which are distributed on the Atlantic slope from southeastern Veracruz and northern Oaxaca, Mexico, to the central Caribbean of Panama and on the Pacific slope from southeastern Nicaragua, northern and southeastern Costa Rica to eastern Panama, from sea level to 1250m.

They are medium-sized and slender specimens, the males are smaller, ranging from 56 to 59 mm, while the females range from 71 to 77 mm. Adult individuals are characterized by a striking combination of bright colors on their bodies, the most notable being, as their common name indicates, their large red eyes with vertical pupils.

These frogs feed primarily on insects and among their predators we could find birds, bats and snakes, some species of which prey on their eggs that hang from the leaves in a transparent jelly form since in this way the tadpoles will fall according to their growth and weight directly into the water source.

(Agalychnis callidryas) are native to the region and are known for their vibrant colors and striking red eyes. They are truly a sight to behold in nature. As you walk through the forest, your guide will point out these amazing creatures as they jump from branch to branch.

The sounds of the night come alive around you as you listen to the chirping of crickets and the croaking of frogs. Red-eyed tree frogs are not only beautiful to look at, but they also play a crucial role in the ecosystem.

They help control insect populations by eating insects such as crickets, moths and beetles. However, they are also prey to birds, bats and snakes, making them a vital part of the food chain. As you continue your hike, you will also be able to spot other nocturnal creatures such as owls, sloths, snakes, bats, among others. The night hike is a truly magical experience that allows you to see the rainforest from a whole new perspective.
